Saturday, September 3rd
Saturday is your first chance to sign-in (or register if you haven't done so yet) and get all set up for EngFrosh. The registration desk will be located in 208 Residence Commons, which is on the main level and around the corner from the Residence Desk. Just follow the signs for EngFrosh! We will be open throughout Residence Move-In, during which off-campus students are also encouraged to come sign in.
Sunday, September 4th
Once again, we'll be set up in 208 Residence Commons during Residence Move-In, to do registration and sign-in for both residence and off-campus students. That same evening, following Residence Floor Meetings and the FYEO Off-Campus BBQ, Day 1 of EngFrosh begins! This will be your first opportunity to meet the other people in your group, and get a glimpse of the craziness to come. Once your group has had a chance to get to know each other, EngFrosh officially gets underway with our opening ceremonies. Then, it's off to our evening events, presented in conjunction with the FYEO. Your new group will look to get on the scoreboard early with our first event - CU Capture the Flag... In The Dark! And after you've tired yourself out, relax and have a few laughs courtesy of our comedy show.
Monday, September 5th
Day 2 is the first full day of EngFrosh activities. You'll spend most of the day competing in the annual Engineering Games, where your group will have to use some creative thinking in order to meet the various challenges you must complete. There will also be a not-so-average tour of campus, and a tour of the city in double decker busses. The day ends off with a relaxing evening of bowling and pool. Lunch and dinner are both provided.
Tuesday, September 6th
Day 3 is one of the major highlights of EngFrosh - White Water Rafting! You'll have the opportunity to go rafting on the Ottawa River with Wilderness Tours, a very popular and memorable experience. If you're feeling less adventurous, you can also opt to relax on the beach, play some volleyball or even just soak in the hot tub - all thanks to Wilderness Tours' many other facilities. Lunch is provided.
Wednesday, September 7th
Day 4 is mostly taken up by Academic Orientation, which includes the Engineering Society's Student Group Fair and the Dean's pizza lunch. In the evening, you'll return to EngFrosh for some activities designed to help you meet other people in your program or stream. Then, it's time for the Photo Skavenger Hunt. Your group will have only a few hours to take the snapshots required on their lists. The catch? Those lists will contain abstract concepts and nonsense phrases. Have fun figuring out what to take pictures of! Dinner is provided.
Thursday, September 8th
Day 5 marks your first day of classes! To help you unwind after your first set of lectures, we will be marching over to the Mayfair Theatre for a night of movies and mayhem. Ever heckled a movie in a theatre - with 500 other people?
Friday, September 9th
Day 6 is more classes - unless you're lucky enough to have Fridays free on your schedule. Friday evening is what we like to call Laundry Night - peel off those grungy frosh shirts and stick 'em in the washing machine, because you've got a night off! You can use this time to really get to know the people you've met over the past few days, or to catch up on some rest before the jam-packed weekend to come. Plus, your shirts won't smell anymore. Hopefully.
Saturday, September 10th
Day 7 starts off with one of EngFrosh's most chaotic events - the annual Market Skavenger Hunt! Your group will be armed with lists of things to find in Ottawa's Byward Market, but once again those lists will contain the strange and the confusing. After some downtime to allow your group to explore the Market and get a bite to eat, it's finally time for the ultimate EngFrosh challenge. Your group must to design and construct a boat – right down to the paddles. Each boat must also be accompanied by a detailed technical report, and must pass a safety inspection before it is deemed seaworthy. And if that wasn't enough, everything must be complete before 10am the next morning! A light breakfast is provided.
Sunday, September 11th
Day 8 - this is it! The last day of EngFrosh begins with a pancake breakfast provided by the Carleton Student Engineering Society, while all of the boats undergo safety inspections. Once the inspections are complete, all of the boats will be transported to the Rideau Canal to start the annual Boat Race. Hours and hours of hard work will come together in a one-shot race for glory. Will your boat cruise to victory, or will its crew be forced to abandon ship? After the race, EngFrosh comes to a close with our awards ceremony, including most enthusiastic frosh and best overall group. Congratulations - you've survived your first week with Carleton Engineering!
