To Our Entering Class:

In the registration package that some of you received, we included a copy of the "Engineer's Hymn". We would like to take this opportunity to apologize for the inclusion of this song.

The song was included due to requests from last year's incoming class to learn the verses before arriving at Carleton. Unfortunately, due to the song's content, Engfrosh '99 and the Faculty of Engineering at Carleton can no longer endorse or condone the use of the song included in the mail-out for orientation week activities. We recognize that the song is potentially offensive and it does not reflect the type of engineering program that exists at Carleton. Our population is comprised of a diverse group that includes many different nationalities, cultures, ethnic groups and religions as well as a good representation of women.

We apologize for the indiscretion and would like to reassure you that we do our best to make you feel welcome within the engineering community here at Carleton and to give you a positive start to your university education.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the Engfrosh Organizing Committee at (613) 526-8062 and we would be more than happy to help you.

Respectfully,

Bill Beveridge
Director
Engfrosh '99
